Momento Mori 'Fistful of Flowers' 2024
Fistful of Flowers is a lightly skin-contact white wine crafted by organic-minded winemakers Momento Mori in Victoria, Australia. It’s made from a blend of Moscato Giallo and Vermentino grapes, which gives it a floral, fresh and vibrant profile.
Style & Winemaking
Wine Type: Natural / orange-style white wine (skin-contact)
Grapes: Moscato Giallo + Vermentino
Production: Small-batch, wild fermentation, minimal intervention, often no added sulphur (SO₂), and minimal fining/filtration, in keeping with natural wine principles.
Alcohol: Around 10.5 – 11.5 % — relatively light.
This “orange wine” designation refers to the winemaking style: fermenting white grapes with their skins (like red wine) to add extra texture, aroma and complexity.
Tasting Notes
Fistful of Flowers is known for:
Floral aromas — think blossoms, elderflower and garden florals.
Bright fruit — citrus zest, lemon, green apple and stone fruit notes.
Minerality and salinity — a fresh, slightly salty finish keeps it lively and refreshing.
Sometimes a musky or floral perfume on the nose, balanced by a clean, crisp palate.
All in all, it’s light, expressive, and very drinkable — especially when you want something a bit different from standard white wines.
Food Pairing Ideas
Because of its floral and zesty personality, it pairs beautifully with:
Seafood (oysters, prawns, sashimi)
Citrus salads or dishes with herbs
Soft cheeses or goats’ cheese
Light Asian meals with fresh herbs
New Zealander Dane Johns worked many years as a barista in Melbourne where he learned about roasting, the nuances of blending & flavour infusion. The formative years ahead of his vinous endeavours. After getting a passion for wine, Dane decided to gain winemaking experience by working several vintages with the innovative Adam Marks at Bress Winery, Central Victoria & famed Bill Downie in Gippsland. He then headed to Europe to work with more of the wineries that he admired, absorbing their knowledge like a sponge. Dane’s passion for wine grew; after some time working in wine retail he took the plunge to release his first wines under the Momento Mori label.
