Chalmers Nero Zero 2024
What it is
Chalmers Nero Zero 2024 is a non-alcoholic red wine made by the Australian winery Chalmers Wines. It’s based on the Italian grape Nero d’Avola, grown in Heathcote, Victoria—a region known for bold reds.
🧪 How it’s made
Even though it’s alcohol-free, it starts like a normal wine:
Hand-picked grapes
Wild fermentation (natural yeasts)
Aged for about 12 months
Then de-alcoholised at the end
So you still get “real wine” structure—just without the alcohol.
👃 Taste & style
This isn’t meant to mimic heavy red wine exactly—it’s lighter and more “crunchy”:
Cherry cola
Raspberry + tangerine
Liquorice notes
Slightly smoky/earthy finish
Overall vibe: fresh, fruity, slightly savoury, not big or tannic.
🍽️ Food pairing
Works best with:
Grilled or charcoal chicken
Roasted vegetables (like beetroot)
Light BBQ dishes
It’s more about casual, food-friendly drinking than sipping like a classic bold red.
⚖️ Key things to know
0% alcohol (or near-zero after processing)
Made from real wine, not just grape juice
Lighter body than standard reds
Around the ~$25–30 AUD range
The dealcoholisation is done deliberately and purposefully to preserve as much varietal character as possible — meaning it’s not simply a flavour-added beverage, but based on real fermented wine that has had alcohol gently removed.
Fermentation is typically stopped before reaching complete dryness so that natural sugars and flavour compounds remain, enhancing mouthfeel and Nero D'Avola character even after alcohol removal.
