Beyond the Glass 'Oats' Bendigo Riesling 2024
Beyond The Glass “Oats” Riesling is a small-batch Australian Riesling made from fruit sourced in Bendigo. It’s part of Beyond The Glass’s playful, minimal-intervention wine lineup, where many wines are named after dogs connected to the winery team. “Oats” is named after the golden retriever of their winemaking assistant, Julia.
The 2024 vintage is described by the winery as:
dry,
bright and aromatic,
crisp with lively acidity,
and “quick and a little sharp, but still gentle.”
According to the producer, the wine was:
made from Riesling grapes grown in Bendigo,
fermented slowly in a chilled tank to preserve aromatics,
and bottled without secondary fermentation.
Style & Tasting Profile
You can expect a modern Australian Riesling style with:
citrus and lime-driven aromas,
green apple and floral notes,
high natural acidity,
a dry finish,
and a fresh, youthful character.
It sounds designed more for immediate drinking and energy rather than aged petrol/mineral complexity.
Winery Style
Beyond The Glass focuses on approachable, fun, low-intervention wines with minimal sulphites and an emphasis on drinkability. Their branding is intentionally relaxed and dog-themed, but the wines are made seriously and thoughtfully.
Food Pairings
“Oats” Riesling would pair especially well with:
fresh oysters,
Vietnamese or Thai food,
spicy dishes,
fish tacos,
goat cheese,
or simple summer snacks.
Riesling from Bendigo and fermented in a chilled tank for lovely slow aromatic development. No secondary ferment, leaving it dry and quick and a little sharp.
After a corporate job in London fell through, Cron was invited to attend harvest in the South of France. It was at a wine tasting event in Le Barroux with local winemakers where a life-changing wine was poured into his glass, it rocked him. That moment and that wine sparked what would become Beyond the Glass.
Cron makes the wine in Bacchus Marsh but their growers are in Geelong, Heathcote and Pyreness - amongst others.
