The Winemaking

Half was pressed as
whole bunches, the other half was destemmed and given a brief period of skin contact before being
bladder-pressed to four seasoned barrels and a small tank for fermentation. After three months, the
barrel-fermented portion was racked with full solids to tank and allowed to settle naturally before
bottling in January 2025.

The Winery

Bandicoot Run is a project that was born out of the desire to work more closely with nature and the ebb and
flow of the seasons. We planted and established our vineyard together in 2017 with the expansion of the
half-acre vineyard on Als family property. We now farm 3 hectares, organically and with a focus on
biodiversity and building healthy soil microbiology.

The vineyard sits on alluvial soils which are comprised of fertile loamy topsoil sitting over layers of silt and
sand with granite gravel scattered throughout, which is sitting over deep yellow and grey clay – basically a
composite sample of the decomposed hillsides that surround us. As well as being farmed organically, we
are also focusing on building healthy soil microbiology through the regular application of compost tea
sprays to improve our vine health and fruit quality. We have never sprayed herbicide or cultivated under
vine, preferring a constant sward to exist so the soil structure is maintained and insects and other
organisms are able to flourish.
