La Bancale 'Roc Traoucat' 2023

Based in Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, Celine and Bastien have carved out a ‘one to watch’ reputation — and after tasting their latest releases, I’d say deservedly so. Their wines almost bely their origins. Working with very old vineyards — Carignan, Carignan Blanc, Grenache Blanc/Gris/Noir, Macabeu, Mourvedre and a little Syrah — they make the most of altitude and the cooling Mediterranean influence to craft fresh, bright, gluggable wines with great minerality and salinity. These are wines of complex simplicity — like that song that reveals something new with every listen. And like that song, so it goes with La Bancale.
