Tim Ward’s path to winemaking began, somewhat improbably, with a beery, lustful declaration to a girl on a beach at 23. A decade working in wine retail, alongside forays into music, international development, hospitality and advocacy, eventually drew him to formal wine studies in Melbourne and vintages across Spain, New Zealand, Bordeaux and Victoria’s Yarra Valley. A 2010 visit to Domaine La Grange Tiphaine in the Loire proved transformative, inspiring a more sensitive, small-scale approach to winemaking—one focused on soil, finesse, freshness and the expression of place. After several experiments, Tim released his first wine in 2014: a pétillant naturel Pinot Noir Rosé inspired by La Grange Tiphaine’s Nouveau Nez. Today, his wines reflect that same artisan spirit and a deep commitment to expressive, site-driven winemaking.
