Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Wes discovered his passion for food and wine while working in Whistler, BC, in 1992, balancing restaurant shifts with snowboarding. After more than a decade in some of Whistler’s leading restaurants, he studied wine biochemistry at the University of British Columbia while gaining hands-on experience at Tantalus Vineyards. Following graduation in 2008, he completed a prestigious internship at Château Léoville Las Cases in Bordeaux before moving to McLaren Vale, where he joined the Australian Wine Research Institute in 2011 and now serves as Senior Sensory Scientist. Wes is an accomplished wine show judge, Len Evans Tutorial alumnus, Wine Australia Future Leaders graduate, and holds a PhD from Charles Sturt University. He lives in Willunga with his partner Cassie and their five children, and enjoys skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, ice hockey, and golf.
